Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, Yamaha is said to be working on making the R25 suitable to be launched in India. The bike was first shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 2013.
The R25 has styling borrowed from the Yamaha YZR-M1 Moto GP racer and is powered by a 250 cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel twin-cylinder engine. It was displayed in India at the 2014 Auto Expo earlier this month. The displayed bike had a full fairing, large air intake, telescopic front fork, monoshock rear suspension and single disc brakes on both the wheels. Yamaha is reported to be making minor changes to the bike at the moment and wants to put it up for sale in the year 2015.
The mid-size motorcycle segment is growing in India. International players like Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, KTM and Hyosung are already present and Indian manufacturers like Hero and Bajaj are expected to join the fray soon. Yamaha cannot afford to neglect the segment any more.
