Williams could sell its F1 team as losses mount

Williams is considering selling its Formula 1 team. The team recorded a GBP 13 million loss in 2019 and has also terminated its contract with title sponsor Rokit.

According to a statement issued by the team, the Williams Grand Prix Holdings board is considering various options including raising new capital, sale of minority or majority stake and a potential sale of the whole company.

Williams has had couple of dreadful seasons in Formula 1. The team finished last in the Constructor's championship in 2018 and 2019, which has had a negative impact on the commercial revenues they receive from Formula 1. The delay to the start of the 2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic has put the team under even more financial pressure.

Williams has been in Formula 1 since 1970. The team has 9 world championship titles under its belt.
