Why I feel the new Duke 390 is better than it's immediate competition

Post this test drive I also tried out the Svartpilen 401 & the Triumph Scrambler 400x.

I recently did a test drive of the 2024 Duke. As a returning motorcyclist, it was one of my first test drives. I fear that it might have spoiled the rest of the motorcycles for me.

The sheer power and control that the bike gives you in terms of handling and braking and the ability to point it in a gap and gun through had me grinning like a madcap. I would categorize it as just the right amount of fear and exhilaration. Sometimes you come across a vehicle that tugs at your heart strings and then the gremlins in your head start their whispering - am I going to be able to manage this? - would it be more prudent to opt for a 'saner' bike?

Post this test drive I also tried out the Svartpilen 401 (good handling but felt less refined than the Duke), the Triumph Scrambler 400x (the high seating position and the power delivery alienated me from feeling the motorcycle). I still have the NS400Z and the RTR310 to try out.

Practicality or YOLO is the thought process running in my head.
