Got my Virtus GT's 6-month check up done today at 6100kms on the odometer. Few points to share -
Apparently, they track every minor part which is not stock on the car. I had installed Bosch frameless wipers and the driver-side wiper was making some noise after prolonged use in heavy rains (faced it in July during Bangalore - Chikodi - Pune drive). Told them to check if the holder was bent and if they could correct it. The wiper noise was actually there from day 1 itself but I had noticed it only after a couple of days after purchase delivery. I had replaced it with Bosch in June thinking the issue was with stock wipers.
The mechanic checked it and as per him, there were no bends. So he just lubed it and said it's all good. He showed me that there was no noise. As I had faced the issue during heavy rains, there was no way to replicate it now as there was no rain. So I just said it's fine. It was still leaving some water streaks but I thought I could change the wipers later.
Here comes the interesting part.
When the SA was reading out the billing line items, he told the biller to add a note saying "Third-party wiper installed by owner". The wording and the intention of the note seemed to be for warranty claims. I immediately asked him what was wrong with Bosch wipers as the company itself is reputed one and most of their products are generally good. Also, the wipers were the same dimension as stock as well.
Then he was like "Sir, we are told to add notes whenever we see any part that is not stock". I was not convinced and told him I didn't get the reason behind it. It's something similar to changing tires to a better than the stock ones. The discussion went on for a couple of minutes and then he suddenly said it's ok and would remove the note from the bill. I later understood that this sudden move to remove the note may be to just get good feedback from me on feedback the form during delivery. I asked him to change the wipers to stock and if I faced any noise issues I would come back to him. He was saying it's not required to change now as he will be removing the note, but I got the wipers changed to stock anyway as I didn't want any hassles in the future if any issues related to the windscreen should arise.
Another thing which wasn't good was that for some reason, the entertainment unit display wasn't working (completely blank) while moving forward, but it was working when I engage reverse gear (the rear camera was coming on along with the whole screen). I noticed it as I was driving out of the gate. Stopped immediately and restarted the car. Still no luck. Then some staff (another SA maybe) saw me and tried to check the issue. He kept the car in reverse and used some menu options and then changed to 1st gear. Now the screen didn't go off and this was without actual change of any setting. Not sure what was the issue and he didn't know either. This was strange and I feel someone should have checked it before delivery.
Overall it turned out to be an average experience. Not sure if it was because of the particular service advisor I got today or if this is common for others as well here. Anyway, a bit relaxed now that the 6 months check up is done and dusted.
Another thing I got to know while talking to the SA was that front parking sensors can now be fitted from VW. The parts cost 12.5K. Sourcing them would take 3-4 days and another 2 days for installation. I am not fully sure if I will be going for it as of now.
One thing I need to take care of is the scratches and swirl marks on my car. Mine is a deep black car and over the last 6 months, it has got a few scratches and swirls marks all over. I may not go for PPF, but still deciding between the options of machine waxing once every year and ceramic coating. I wish I knew maintaining a black car would be this difficult before buying.
