Volkswagen has announced the commencement of production of the Tiguan at its Aurangabad facility, in Maharashtra. It is expected to be launched in India in the month of May this year.
Volkswagen first showcased the Tiguan at the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The company later confirmed that the SUV will be launched in India in 2017, though no specific launch date has been revealed yet. Volkswagen is currently testing the Tiguan in Indian conditions and undisguised test mules have repeatedly been spotted around Pune.
In India, the SUV is likely to be offered with a 2.0-litre, TDI turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 147 BHP, while being mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The second-gen Tiguan is based on Volkswagen's MQB platform, which is said to make it 50 kg lighter than the outgoing model.
