Volkswagen Tiguan launched at Rs. 27.98 lakh

Volkswagen has launched the Tiguan in India. The SUV is available in two variants - Comfortline and Highline. The Tiguan Comfortline trim has been priced at Rs. 27.98 lakh, while the top-end Highline variant costs Rs. 31.38 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Tiguan is built on VW's modular MQB platform. It is 4,486 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 1,672 mm in height. The wheelbase spans 2,677 mm, while the ground clearance is 149 mm. The SUV tips the weighing scales at 1,720 kg (with 90% fuel). The five-seater SUV offers 615 litres of boot space with all seats up, which can be expanded to 1,655 litres by folding the rear bench. The VW Tiguan is available in 5 colour options: Tungsten Silver, Oryx White, Deep Black, Indium Grey and Atlantic Blue.

The Tiguan Comfortline comes with auto LED headlamps and DRLs, 17-inch alloy wheels and electrically adjustable and heated ORVMs with turn indicators. Standard features offered with the SUV include a 3-zone automatic climate control, leather-wrapped flat bottom steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver seat with power adjustable lumbar support, heated front seats, a height-adjustable luggage compartment floor, electrically operated tailgate, front centre armrest with storage and a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone-based navigation and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto compatibility. The Highline trim gets 18-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, panoramic sunroof and keyless entry & go.

Occupant safety is ensured by the standard front, side and curtain airbags, hill descent control, electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors and disc brakes on all four wheels. The Highline trim also gets a rear parking camera and self sealing tyres.

The India-spec VW Tiguan is powered by a 1,968 cc, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Output figures of the 2.0-litre TDI unit are rated at 141 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 340 Nm of peak torque @ 1,750 - 2,750 rpm. The Tiguan is also loaded with VW's 4MOTION all wheel drive system with variable torque transfer to the rear wheels. The company claims a fuel economy figure of 17.06 km/l for the Tiguan diesel.
