Volkswagen Taigun production set to kick off on August 18

The Skoda Kushaq's sister car, the VW Taigun could be launched by the end of August 2021.

The much-awaited Skoda Kushaq was launched earlier this year. Now, the Volkswagen Group is gearing up to introduce its sister car, the VW Taigun in the Indian market. According to one report, the car's production is set to kick-off on August 18.

The Taigun is based on the same MQB A0-IN platform as the Kushaq. However, the former adopts a completely different design philosophy. The front end of the Taigun looks like a compact Tiguan, while the rear features LED taillights with an LED light bar in the centre. On the inside, the Taigun gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.

The Taigun will share its engines with the Kushaq. There will be two petrol engines on offer - a 1.0-litre TSI with 113 BHP and 175 Nm and a 1.5-litre TSI putting out 148 BHP and 250 Nm. While a 6-speed manual transmission will be offered as standard with both engines, the 1.0L engine will get a 6-speed automatic option and the 1.5L motor will get a 7-speed DSG.

While Volkswagen is yet to announce the official launch date, it is said that the Taigun might debut around the end of next month.
