In December 2015, Volkswagen had revealed a special edition of the Polo hatchback called the Polo AllStar. The company went on to showcase the car, at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Now, according to media reports, the car has been spotted in India. It is expected to be launched here in the coming months.
In Europe, the Polo AllStar gets additional features, which help to distinguish it from the regular Polo. These include headlamp washers, heated windshield washer nozzles, revised fog lamps, redesigned alloy wheels and AllStar badging on the B-Pillars. On the inside, the car gets automatic climate control and heated front seats amongst other features. Some of these features are a part of a "winter package" and are not expected to make it to the India spec car.
In European markets, the Polo AllStar comes with a 1.0-litre, TSI petrol engine that develops 108 BHP. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. However, the car spotted in India is wearing a TDI badge, indicating that it is likely to get the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that the regular Polo also uses.
The Polo Allstar edition, along with nine other Volkswagen models, are an exercise to promote the 2016 UEFA European Championship (Euro 2016) football tournament that is scheduled to be held from June 10 to July 10 in France.
