Volkswagen might bring Golf GTI to India

According to media reports, Volkswagen is planning to launch the Golf GTI in India. The company has indicated that the car could come to India sometime in 2018 or 2019.

Volkswagen recently launched the three-door Polo GTI at a price of Rs. 25.99 lakh. This high price tag is mainly a result of the car being brought in through the CBU route. The Polo GTI has been introduced to judge the maturity of the country's hot hatch market. Thus, the company will be selling just 99 units of the car in the country.

The next product coming from Volkswagen's performance-oriented GTI range is likely to be the Golf GTI. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI, turbocharged petrol engine that is rated at 227 BHP and mated to a new 7-speed DSG gearbox. Since the Golf sits higher that the Polo in global markets, the Golf GTI is likely to cost more than the Polo GTI.
