Volkswagen Ameo production starts; smartphone app launched

Volkswagen has started production of the Ameo compact sedan at its plant at Chakan, near Pune. The company has invested approximately Rs. 720 crore in the development of the Ameo, setting up new equipment for its production as well as ramping up the manufacturing of the car. The company has invested approximately Rs. 5,720 crore in India since 2007.

The first Ameo to be rolled out from the plant is a finished in "Blue Silk" colour. It is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder MPI petrol engine.

The car is scheduled to be launched later this year. It will compete with the Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Zest.

Earlier this month, Volkswagen launched a smartphone application for the Ameo. This app enables customers to explore the features of the car through a 360 degree visualizer. It also assists users in locating the nearest Volkswagen dealership and allows customers to make a choice through the competition comparison module and secure service-related information. Additionally, the app will give users the opportunity to pre-book the car.

The app includes the following information:

  • Gallery with interior, exterior, functional, safety images and videos
  • Specifications basis variant
  • Colours
  • Pre-book - captures customer information
  • Dealer locator with click-to-call, email and locate via google map functions
  • Contact us function through toll free calling and website address

Customers can download the Volkswagen Ameo app from Google Play Store. It can be installed on any android based device. The iOS version of the app is expected to be launched soon.

The Volkswagen Ameo made its world debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. It is based on the Polo hatchback and is available with two engine options - 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder MPI petrol and 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TDI diesel.

The Ameo comes equipped with dual front airbags and ABS as standard fitment across variants.
