USA: Harley-Davidson recalls over 19,000 motorcycles

Harley-Davidson has issued a large recall of 19,015 motorcycles from its Dyna and Softail motorcycle ranges in the USA. The American motorcycle maker disclosed a problem with the banjo bolt to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Harley-Davidson suspects that the threads of the bolt in the front-brake master cylinder could corrode. The corrosion of these threads could cause a sudden loss of brake fluid, thereby severely hampering braking.

The motorcycles in question were manufactured between August 22nd, 2011 and February 24th, 2012. The company will contact customers and replace any faulty parts. Customers will not incur any expense for the same and the recall is expected to begin from January 14th, 2015. No such recall has been issued for the Dyna and Softail models in India and Harley-Davidson has not stated if vehicles sold in India will be affected as well.
