Volkswagen has recalled the Tiguan in the US over risk of fire, which could be caused by a short-circuit in the decorative LED lighting in the panoramic sunroof.
A total of 45,457 Tiguans fitted with panoramic sunroofs manufactured between December 8, 2016 and July 8, 2018 have been recalled.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), high humidity in the panoramic sunroof LED lighting module could cause a short-circuit, which could start a fire.
To fix this issue, the LED light module on the affected cars will be disconnected from its power supply. This is just a temporary fix and the feature will be reactivated in a future service campaign once a permanent solution is found for the issue. The recall will begin on September 11, 2018.
