Thailand: New Toyota Hilux spotted without camouflage

The next-generation Toyota Hilux pick-up truck has been spotted completely undisguised in Thailand. The spy images give us an idea of how the upcoming Fortuner will look, since it is based on the Hilux.

The Hilux gets swept back projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and chrome inserts, a chrome grille with two slats that merge with the headlamps, a redesigned front bumper with round fog lamps with chrome bezels and an air dam with horizontal black slats. The vehicle also gets 6-spoke alloy wheels and ORVMs with integrated turn indicators.

The interiors of the Hilux are black with brushed aluminium and chrome inserts. The dashboard is redesigned and there is a new multifunction steering wheel. The vehicle is also equipped with a large screen for the infotainment system, keyless entry and go and an automatic gearbox.

To power the Hilux, Toyota will use engines from the new GD family of engines that it introduced earlier this month. Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected to be offered.

In India, the Fortuner is likely to use a 2.8-litre, diesel power plant with a variable geometry turbo, developing 177 BHP and 450 Nm of torque. The SUV is expected to be shown at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will compete with the Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
