Test driving BYD Atto 3: Opinion on its ride quality, comfort and space

This is not an SUV. The ride height is fairly low as compared to the MG Hector and Mahindra XUV700 and its boot space is just less than our Skoda Rapid.

BHPian kadumanushya recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Test drove the BYD Atto 3 recently. I loved the car. Here's a quick review:

Pros:

  1. Space is great. (We're all nearly 6ft tall, ~100kg ppl). I adjusted the driver's seat for my driving and tried sitting behind the driver's seat. There's enough space and my head doesn't hit the roof. Boot space is just less than my Rapid.
  2. Ride comfort: Is absolutely great. I'd test-driven the Hector and this is comparable! I've also test driven the XUV7OO after the Atto 3 and the rear seat comfort in the Atto 3 is better. (Wife sat in the back seat, she hated the XUV7OO but liked this better). Took it on a mud road/ground with a very uneven surface, handled it like a champ!
  3. Safety: This doesn't have an Indian or GNCAP rating. BUT, it does have a EuroNCAP rating of 5 stars.
  4. Ride: Smooth enough, I'm a very sedate driver and was driving on the Ring Road in Mysore. Didn't try the top speed. Did get to 80-100 easily enough and stopped quickly enough.
  5. Feature list: 360 Camera is good, the screen is lag-free. (Not covering all the features, just the ones which I considered mattered)
  6. Range: The sales guy mentioned that they drive down from Blr to Mysore, finish TDs and return on a single charge. Mine had 48% when I started. Ran it 5% down in a 20km TD

Cons:

  1. BYD Roadmap: The big Q. Will they, won't they exit India?
  2. Ride height: This is not an SUV in my wife's opinion. The ride height is fairly low compared to a Hector/XUV7OO. (But this is far easier to get into than my Rapid if you're an old person)
  3. Pricing: Felt like it was a little too much. Is this worth 35L OTR (40L if you're in Karnataka)? No. If their mid variant is priced ~25L, this would be a no-brainer. (I know why they can't/won't)

Summary

If this is primarily a city car with an occasional highway run, I'd say this is a good buy. This would have been my choice if only my wife was okay with the ride height (she doesn't drive, but that didn't stop the veto). The other ones under consideration were the Hector and XUV7OO. This wins over the other two because of ride comfort (as good as the Hector!!) and safety ratings.

If it matters, it's us 2, our Golden + Lab or just a family member in the back seat.
