Earlier this month, Tata Motors released a TV commercial in which, its upcoming hatchback was teased. Now, the company has released some more information on this car, which had been codenamed Kite. When it goes on sale, it will be called the Tata Zica.

The Zica will be unveiled to the press in December 2015 and is expected to go on sale in 2016. Tata Motors is expected to position it below the Bolt in its line-up and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai i10.

Going by the visuals seen in the commercial, the Zica will get a headlamp design that has not been seen on a Tata car before. The car has a black mesh grille with a chrome lining along its lower edge and a Tata logo in the centre. The design of the tail lamp cluster is also new and so it the design of the hatch.

The Zica is expected to be equipped with features such as a multi-function steering wheel, Harman-developed infotainment system and air-conditioning among others. Engine options are likely to include a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.05-litre diesel engine. CNG, LPG and AMT or e-clutch equipped variants of the cars could also be offered.

Apart from the hatchback, the Zica is expected to be available as a sub-4-metre compact sedan as well. Tata Motors is expected to manufacture the car at its plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
