Tata Motors to supply over 5,000 buses for state transport

Tata Motors has bagged orders to supply more than 5,000 buses to 25 state / city transport undertakings across the country.

According to the company, this translates to a growth of over 80% compared to last year in the order book position for Tata Motors. The surge in STU (state transport undertakings) buying is being witnessed after a gap of nearly four years.

Some of the orders require fully IT enabled buses, to ensure trackability and traceability. They will be fitted with features such as GPS enabled on-board ITS (Intelligent Transport System), public information systems via electronic destination boards, CCTV cameras, on-board WiFi, smart multi-mode ticketing and on-board diagnostics systems.

Some of the buses ordered will get air-conditioning and heating (HVAC), air-suspension systems, lower NVH systems, automatic transmissions, wider passage-ways, wider window panes and wider and lower entry/exit doors. Bus body code practices will be adopted during body fabrication.

More than 1,500 of the ordered buses will be fully built and integrated with these features at the Tata Motors JV manufacturing facility at Tata Marcopolo (Dharwad & Lucknow) and at the ACGL Goa facility.
