Tata Motors set to supply 619 more HMVs to Indian Army

In July 2015, we had reported that Tata Motors had bagged an order to supply 1,239 units of its high-mobility 6X6 multi-axle trucks to the Indian Army (click here to read report). The company had stated that it was the largest order awarded to an Indian private OEM in land systems by the Indian Army. Now, Tata Motors has signed another contract to supply 619 additional units of the truck to the Army.

Tata Motors claims that the Tata 6X6 high mobility all-terrain vehicle has been indigenously developed and has gone through trials including cross country terrains and plains as well as deep water-fording. The vehicle is capable of achieving sustained speeds of 40 kmph, on cross country terrains. It can be customised for various applications.

The vehicle has successfully competed against products from rival bidders, including some European and global defence companies.
