Tata Motors & Indonesian firm sign MoU for defence vehicles

Tata Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an Indonesian firm named PT Pindad, to explore market potential of Tata's Armoured Vehicles in Indonesia as well as other countries in the ASEAN region. Under the said MoU, Tata will also be studying the possibility of locally assembling its Armoured Vehicles at PT Pindad’s manufacturing facility in the West Java province of Indonesia.

Tata has been in the business of manufacturing defence and military vehicles since 1958. The company has also recently created a focused division for the design and development of defence technologies and military specialised vehicles at its Indian manufacturing facilities in Jamshedpur and Pune. Till date, the automaker has supplied over 110,000 vehicles to the Indian military and paramilitary forces. Tata's defence vehicles are also exported to the SAARC, ASEAN and African regions. With the partnership with PT Pindad, Tata is aiming to further enhance its presence in the defence vehicle segment in the ASEAN region.

Tata Motors already has a significant presence in the Indonesian automotive market, especially in the commercial vehicle space. The company claims that there are over 3,000 Tata vehicles in the country, including pickups, light trucks, buses and heavy trucks.

PT Pindad is an Indonesia-based state-owned company which specialises in military and commercial products. It is a major supplier of main weapon systems for the country's military forces.
