Suzuki Ignis spied testing in India!

Maruti Suzuki showcased the Ignis at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo shortly after details of the JDM spec model were revealed. While the car at the expo was showcased to gauge the public response, Maruti has already started testing the India-spec Ignis. Seen here in the base grade, the Ignis will have cosmetic differences vs the Japanese model and we can expect additions like roof rails and body cladding to make it look more like a crossover. Powertrain options will differ as well.

The Ignis is based on Suzuki's new compact passenger car platform and 50.1% of the car's body weight is made of high-strength steel. Depending on the variant, the Ignis weighs between 880 - 920 kg. 

In Japan, all variants of the Ignis come installed with Suzuki's SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild hybrid system and a 1.2L DUALJET petrol engine (K12C) that is capable of delivering a fuel efficiency figure of up to 28.8 km/l (as per JC08 test cycle). The engine is a DOHC, 16-valve unit which delivers 90 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 118 Nm of torque @ 4,400 rpm. 

Maruti's K-Series 1.2L petrol is likely to be used for the India-spec Ignis and a 1.2L version of the diesel engine used in the Celerio DDiS, could make its way under the bonnet of the Ignis too. The Ignis will be retailed through Maruti's premium NEXA showroom network, alongside the S-Cross and Baleno.
