Sold my Ford Figo P AT: Why finding a buyer wasn't as easy as I thought

I had quoted a slightly higher price with all the accessories and parts which I had bought as spare, but then reality hit me hard and people just want the car itself.

BHPian jithin23 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

One quick update on the Shadow. Since the car is being used very sparsely at home plus my sister might go overseas or pursue her higher education in India, with a heavy heart, I have sold the Figo a.k.a Shadow on 28 Jan 2025 after scouting for a good owner who will take car of the car equally. Went and delivered the car at IIT Madras (as the new owner was pursuing his education in IIT Madras). Both the buyer and I were not in sync for a while. Then I sat down and explained my ordeal to him and he explained his concern too and then we agreed on the deal. Initially I had quoted a slightly higher price with all the accessories and parts which I had bought as spare, but then reality hit me hard and people just want the car itself and not everyone are crazy when it comes to customizing their cars. Hence, I sold all the accessories and parts separately to offset the difference cost and I sold the car for a reasonable price which worked out for both me and the buyer.

Fortunately, I could find a good buyer in Chennai itself after 4-5 months of searching(I had posted on Team BHP classifieds too) and it is easier to transfer documents locally. However, selling an out of state car in Bangalore is a challenge as people are reluctant to drive another state plate within the city even though they are residents of the city for a long time( I got answers like not all are as tough or crazy as you to handle an out of state vehicle in Bangalore). Even worse is in Chennai where they end up advising you that why did I come to Chennai to buy a cheap car, what's so special with the car, how much did I buy the car from the previous owner and so on. Out of all these before I could find the new owner for this car, a gentleman from Chennai was kind enough atleast to bear the fuel expense for me to drive till Chennai to see the car (unfortunately he didn't buy the car as his mum was finding it uncomfortable to get in/out of the car, otherwise his family liked the car a lot), whereas a few others were like why should we pay if you have to travel to show the car nor " I can't come till Bangalore too see the car as I'll be wasting time" are the answers.

A lesson I've learnt in this exercise is if you buy a car from Chennai and try to sell it, one needs to have a lot of patience in buying and selling a car in this city because their words are outright provocative. One more lesson is many are passionate by text or mouth but only a few put it in action or showcase it in reality.

During my ownership, I had driven the car for about 10,000kms in 2 years (which is underutilized in my opinion) purchased extended warranty, changed tyres and wheels, added OEM DRL, OEM sunshades, Sunglass holder, cruise control and ambient lights.

  • Highest FE: 15-16kmpl
  • Lowest was 6kmpl

Average FE was 11kmpl and I had serviced it twice in 2 years and I spent about 8k for 2 services.

Also a couple of videos before I decided to part ways with the Shadow:

A video of all 3 cars (Figo is no longer with me now as I'm typing this)

Hardly any user review is available of the Figo 1.5 Dragon AT globally and this is one of the only videos which have been published

Goodbye Shadow, I had the most fun while driving and owning you in these past 2 years and on the twisties and one of the scariest cars(due to the sheer power and torque) I've driven in recent times. You will be missed!

Reminds me of NFS Underground
