Smart driving licences to have emergency contact numbers

According to a media report, driving licences and vehicle registration certificates will feature a uniform design from now. The smart licence will also have an emergency contact number of the license holder.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had issued a notification for the new design. The new layout features an emergency contact number, which can be used to contact family members if the person is involved in an accident.

It has been reported that Uttar Pradesh has started issuing the new licences and registration certificates from October 1, 2019.
