Skoda prepping up for an all-electric sports car

Skoda officials have reportedly confirmed that the carmaker is working on an all-electric sports car. It will be a part of the company's plans to introduce five EVs by 2025. However, no specific timeline for the electric sports car's launch has been revealed yet.

According to Christian Strube, member of the Skoda Board of Management for Technical Development, the upcoming electric sports car will draw inspiration from the 110 R. The Skoda 110 R was a rear-engined sports coupe that went on sale in 1970. It will be based on the MEB platform, which is expected to underpin all-electric vehicles coming from the Volkswagen Automotive Group (VAG).

Deeper details about the electric sports car haven't surfaced yet. However, speculations suggest that it will likely have a rear wheel drive layout, which will help in embedding sports car characteristics in the electric vehicle. Volkswagen Group's MEB platform offers automakers the flexibility to use all wheel drive, rear wheel drive and front wheel drive setups across vehicles, depending on the positioning of motors.
