Until now, Skoda's main focus has been sedans and SUVs. But, the massive growth of the crossover segment has compelled the carmaker to look beyond the aforementioned segments. The new Kushaq marks the brand's entry into this lucrative segment of the market.
The Skoda Kushaq is available in seven variants and prices start at Rs. 10,49,999 (ex-showroom).
The Kushaq is the first model under the brand’s India 2.0 project. It is based on the MQB A0-IN platform, which is shared with the Volkswagen Taigun. The car measures 4,225 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, 1,612 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,651 mm.
The Kushaq's styling is very similar to its stablemates - Kodiaq and Karoq. The car gets LED headlights and tail lights with L-shaped DRLs and a typical Skoda grille. It has short front and rear overhangs and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the Kushaq comes equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Lower variants get a smaller 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The car also gets a classy 2-spoke steering wheel similar to the Octavia.
The Kushaq is available with two turbo-petrol engine options. These include a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder TSI that makes 113 BHP and 178 Nm and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TSI that puts out 148 BHP and 250 Nm. The latter gets Active Cylinder Technology, which deactivates two cylinders while cruising in order to improve fuel efficiency.
While a 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard, the 1.0L engine gets a 6-speed automatic option. The 1.5L motor comes with the slick 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The Kushaq comes with a 4 years / 1,00,000 km warranty, extendable up to 6 years / 1,50,000 km.
