Skoda confirms Compact SUV for India

Skoda has confirmed that it would launch a new SUV in India around 2020 as part of its India 2.0 project. It will be based on the MQB-A0 IN architecture derived from the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform.

According to media reports, the brand's new sub-compact SUV could be called Kosmiq. It is likely to share its platform with the Volkswagen T-Cross and could make its way into the Indian market.

The India-spec SUV could be offered with features like a digital instrument cluster and reclining seats in the second row. While there is no word yet on the engines that will be offered, rumours suggest that it could get a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

The Skoda Kosmiq is expected to make its global debut sometime in 2019. It could rival the Hyundai Creta in the Indian market.
