Sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro revealed!

Chevrolet has taken the wraps off the all new Chevrolet Camaro. On the surface, the car’s new design seems evolutionary, but the new Camaro rides on a lighter architecture and has a new powertrain range on offer.

The new Camaro is lighter by around 90 kgs or more, depending on the model. The body has been aerodynamically improved after 350 hours of wind tunnel testing, which Chevrolet claims, has reduced drag on LT models and improved downforce on the SS.

Exterior features include halogen projector headlamps and new tail lamps on the standard model, HID projectors headlamps and LED day time running lights on the RS and SS models. The RS and SS also feature LED tail lamps. All Camaro models will be offered with Brembo brakes, while they will come as standard on the SS.

On the inside, the car gets analogue instrumentation, an eight inch audio visual navigation (AVN) screen, heating and cooling controls integrated into rings surrounding the air ducts, an electronic parking brake and a 24 colour ambient LED lighting system. The ambient lighting is one of eight functions the driver can adjust using the Camaro’s new driver mode selector.

Goodyear tyres come as standard on all models. The LT features standard 18-inch wheels wrapped around by Goodyear Eagle Sport all-season tyres and is available with 20-inch wheels wrapped around by Eagle F1 Asymmetric all-season run-flat tires. The Camaro SS features standard 20-inch wheels with Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 run-flat tires. Additionally, the magnetic ride control is available on the Camaro SS for the first time. Previously limited to the Camaro ZL1, the active suspension reads road / driving conditions, and automatically adjusts the damper settings to alter the ride comfort and control.

Powertrain options include a:

-    2.0L, four-cylinder engine that makes 275 BHP and 400 Nm of torque.

-    3.6L, V6 engine that makes 335 BHP and 385 Nm of torque.

-    6.2L, V8 engine that makes 455 BHP and 617 Nm of torque. (Camaro SS)

-    The 2.0L and 3.6L engine are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a new Hydra-Matic 8L45 eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

-    The 6.2L engine on the Camaro SS, is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or the Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The 2016 Camaro will be produced at GM’s Lansing Grand River assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan.
