According to a media report, Yamaha could launch the MT-15 in India sometime next year.
The 2019 MT-15 was showcased in Thailand earlier this month. It is a naked street bike that borrows some of its components from the R15 V3.0. It features aggressively styled bodywork with an LED headlamp and a digital instrument cluster. The Thai version is equipped with an upside-down fork at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. However, in India, it could be offered with conventional telescopic forks. The bike comes with a single side-mounted exhaust and it rides on alloy wheels.
The MT-15 is likely to be powered by the same engine as the R15. In the R15, the 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine produces 19 BHP @ 10,000 rpm and 15 Nm of torque @ 8,500 rpm and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The exact specifications of the MT-15's engine are not yet known. The bike is expected to come equipped with disc brakes at both ends and ABS as standard.
In India, the Yamaha MT-15 could compete with the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
