Rumour: Renault Kwid 1.0L launch scheduled in August

Renault India is reportedly planning to launch the 1.0-litre variant of the Kwid hatchback this month. Through this launch, the automaker is aiming to increase its market share to 5% by the end of 2016.

During this year's Auto Expo, Renault had announced that the Kwid would be getting a 1.0-litre variant in 2016. This new Kwid will be powered by a 1.0-litre SCe engine, which is reported to develop around 65 BHP. While a 5-speed manual is expected to come as standard, Renault will likely offer the Easy R-AMT as an option.

The Kwid currently on sale in India is powered by a 0.8-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that makes 52 BHP and 72 Nm of torque. The Kwid has managed to bring significant numbers to the Renault stable, with sales touching the 75,000 mark.

The Kwid 1.0L will be aesthetically identical to the model currently on sale. It would likely get dual airbags as an option in the top variant. Once launched, the Renault Kwid 1.0 will compete against the Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1.0L.
