Rumour: Nissan Terrano SUV variant details leaked?

Nissan India has begun handing out media drives of its latest product, the Terrano SUV. A re-badged Renault Duster which takes brand engineering a step further with sheet metal changes, the Terrano SUV has already been unveiled in India. The official price announcement of this SUV will happen during the launch event, which is slated to happen soon. OnCars reports that the Nissan Terrano will be sold in 7 variants, 2 variants fewer than what the Renault Duster is available with.

The petrol and diesel engines are said to be carried over from the Renault Duster. This means that the 1.6 liter petrol engine outputting 104 PS-140 Nm, and the 1.5 liter K9K turbo diesel engine, in 85 PS-200 Nm and 110 PS-248 Nm states of tune, will power the different variants of the Terrano. With the overwhelming bias in the SUV segment towards diesel engined models, Nissan might launch only a single petrol variant, in XL trim.

Each tune of the K9K diesel engine will get three variants. While the 85 PS version of the Terrano is said to come with XE, XL-D and XL-D+ variants, the 110 PS version could come with XL-D, XV-D and XV-D Premium. Clearly, Nissan seems to be pitching the 85 PS Terrano as a budget alternative while the 110 PS models will be quite loaded in terms of features and creature comforts. The Terrano is also said to omit steering column mounted audio controls and the touch screen infotainment system.

As the Terrano is said to be priced and positioned higher than equivalent variants of the Duster, these "rumored" omissions come as a big surprise. More details about the exact features of the Terrano will be revealed closer to the official launch. For now, it is safe to assume that the Nissan SUV will feature revised interiors and retain safety features such as ABS+EBD and twin airbags on the top end variants.
