Rumour: Next-gen Maruti Wagon R to be launched in Diwali

Earlier this year, test mules of the next-gen Maruti Wagon R were spotted on the streets. Now, as per a media report, Maruti is expected to launch the new hatchback during Diwali, later this year.

It has been reported that the new Wagon R may not be based on the HEARTECT platform in order to keep costs down. That said, according to recent spy images, the car would retain its tall boy design and boxy proportions. The test mule appears to have a revised front fascia featuring a new grille and bumper, circular fog lamps and ORVMs with integrated turn signals.

Under the bonnet, the Wagon R might be offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine similar to the current model. Transmission options might include a 5-speed manual and AMT. The current-gen Wagon R is powered by a 998 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 67 BHP @ 6,200 rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT.
