Mercedes-Benz E 220d to launch in India on June 2

Mercedes-Benz will launch the E 220d in India on June 2, 2017. This will mark the introduction of a new entry-level diesel variant in the E-Class line-up.

Mercedes had launched the 2017 E-Class LWB in India earlier this year. The luxury sedan is currently available in two variants - E 200 and E 350d. The E 220d will slot below the E 350d, which is currently the only diesel variant available.

Powering the Mercedes E 220d will be a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that is expected to churn out around 191 BHP and 400 Nm of torque, while being mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. While this engine is already available in international markets, its Indian launch was delayed as the German automaker had to downgrade the powerplant from Euro VI to BS-IV norms, so that it can work with the BS-IV fuel available in India.
