Rumour: Maruti Suzuki Dzire & Ciaz could get CNG option

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki could be planning to expand its CNG portfolio with CNG variants of the Dzire and Ciaz.

The Dzire CNG will use the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol engine, which is likely to be tuned to run on CNG. When running on petrol, this engine produces 86 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm @ 4,200 rpm. On CNG, the output is expected be slightly lower. The CNG variant could be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Similarly, the 1.5-litre petrol engine powering the Ciaz could also be tuned to run on CNG. In its current configuration, the 1.5-litre Smart Hybrid unit makes 103 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm @ 4,400 rpm.

At present, Maruti's CNG range includes the Alto, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Tour S, Ertiga and Super Carry LCV.
