Rumour: Maruti to launch Swift facelift in July

Launched in 2011, the 2nd-gen Maruti Swift has been the best-selling hatchback in the B2 segment. Its dominance has been unchallenged, but with the competition upgrading its cars regularly, Maruti is taking no chances. The company has given the Swift a mid-life makeover and is rumoured to be gearing up to launch the car soon. A report by Overdrive claims that the facelifted Swift may be introduced as early as July.

The car is expected to gain daytime running lights (DRLs), electrically retracting ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and a redesigned centre stop lamp at the rear. Coming to the interior, the Swift is expected to get an engine start / stop button, Bluetooth compatible audio system, dual-tone upholstery and one-touch up / down window for the driver. Automatic headlamps are also likely to be included in the list of features.

Engine and transmission options for the Swift are likely to remain the same as the current model:

  • 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol, 86 bhp @ 6200 rpm, 114 Nm @ 4000 rpm, 5-speed MT
  • 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel, 74 bhp @ 4000 rpm, 190 Nm @ 2000 rpm, 5-speed MT

Maruti could use the Dzire's 4-speed automatic gearbox in the Swift. There are rumours that an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) could be offered.
