Rumour: Maruti to launch small car (codename: Y1K) in 2020

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing a new small car (codename: Y1K). Positioned between the Alto and the Wagon R, the new model is rumoured to be launched in 2020.

According to a media report, the Y1K is currently being developed at the carmaker's research and development facility in Rohtak. The first prototypes are expected to be ready by early 2020. It has been reported that the new small car could be offered with an 800-1,000cc petrol engine and it will comply with the latest emissions and safety regulations that are likely to come into effect in 2020.

In addition to the Y1K, Maruti is also expected to launch a new Wagon R followed by a refreshed version of the Alto, which might be launched by 2021.
