Rumour: Maruti to launch 3rd-gen Swift Sport, Hybrid in India

According to a media report, Maruti is likely to launch the 3rd-gen Swift Sport in India. The car maker is also believed to offer the Swift Hybrid in addition to the standard petrol and diesel versions.

The Suzuki Swift Sport made its public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. It features a more aggressive body kit which includes a low front splitter, side skirts, a rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and twin exhausts. The Swift Sport rides on sports suspension with a lower ride height and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Inside, the car gets predominantly black interiors with red accents. It gets a flat-bottom steering wheel, twin-pod instrument cluster with red detailing and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Under the bonnet, the India-bound Swift Sport will reportedly be powered by a 1.4-litre Boosterjet petrol engine. This engine delivers 138 BHP and 230 Nm of torque which will be channeled through a 6-speed manual gearbox.

On the other hand, the Swift Hybrid uses the familiar 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which makes 83 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. It is coupled to a 10-kW electric motor and a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

Maruti hasn’t made a formal announcement confirming the Swift Sport and Hybrid for India. However, recent spy shots suggest that road trials of the hybrid might be underway. Moreover, we can expect the Swift Sport and Hybrid to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.
