Rumour: Mahindra Two Wheelers developing 125 cc Gusto

Mahindra Two Wheelers is rumoured to be working on a new variant of the Gusto scooter. This new product will have a 125 cc engine and is believed to be ready to start test runs.

The Gusto 125 is likely to carry over all the styling of the current Gusto. However, to differentiate it from its 110 cc sibling, it is likely to get a few tweaks to the front apron. It could also get optional alloy wheels, a front disc brake and digital instrumentation. Features such as height-adjustable seat, engine immobiliser with remote flip key are likely to be carried over from the current model.

It is unclear what engine Mahindra will use in Gusto 125. It could either be a brand new unit or the old power plant found in Rodeo and Duro scooters. This 124.6 cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine develops 8 bhp @ 7000 rpm and 9 Nm of torque @ 5500 rpm. The engine in the Gusto 125 could offer more power and torque.

The scooter market is growing at a rapid pace and, like others, Mahindra will want to offer as many products as it can to attract customers. The chief competitors for the Gusto 125 will include the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125 and Suzuki Swish 125.

More news on the Mahindra Gusto 125 is awaited.
