Rumour: Mahindra readying RX6 variant of SsangYong Rexton

Mahindra is rumoured to be readying a new variant of the SSangYong Rexton SUV. The RX6, as it is likely to be badged, will be equipped will all the features that are available on the range-topping RX7 variant and a 5-speed, manual transmission.

A report by Autocar India indicates that the RX6 will get features like LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory function and wing mirrors, electric sunroof with sun-blind, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and all-wheel drive system.

The RX6 will be powered by the same Mercedes-sourced 2.7-litre, 5-cylinder, 162 bhp, turbocharged diesel motor that is found in other RX5.

The RX6 will be positioned between the RX5 and automatic RX7 variants. Mahindra will be hoping that the addition of the new variant will prop up the sales of the Rexton, which is lagging way behind its rival, the Toyota Fortuner.
