Rumour: Hyundai keen to enter Formula 1

Hyundai is currently the fourth-largest car manufacturer in the world.

According to reports, Hyundai could be looking to enter Formula 1. Rumours state that the South Korean car giant is considering buying its way into the sport.

Hyundai currently competes in the World Rally Championship, having even won the manufacturer's trophy in 2019 and 2020. The Hyundai WRC team is managed by Cyril Abiteboul - former Renault F1 team principal.

While details of Hyundai's plans are yet unknown, its intent to buy its way into F1 could play to the likes of Formula One Management (FOM). In addition, the change in engine regulations from the 2026 season could also be an interesting prospect for Hyundai. Also, South Korea expressing interest in hosting an F1 Grand Prix in Incheon could prove helpful.

Hyundai is currently the fourth-largest car manufacturer in the world. It will be interesting to see the South Korean car giant on the F1 grid alongside brands like Honda (signed with Aston Martin), Ford (with Red Bull) and General Motors (with Andretti).
