Rumour: Hyundai Eon facelift under works

Hyundai is reportedly planning to introduce a facelifted version of the Eon in India. The updated model is expected to be launched next year, and will get some cosmetic tweaks, while remaining mechanically identical to the current model.

The entry-level hatchback segment has received various updates over the past couple of years, owing to the introduction of the Renault Kwid and the Datsun redi-GO, along with the minor facelift given to the Alto 800 and the Alto K10. However, the Eon hasn't been given any significant update since its launch in 2011, save for the bigger 1.0-litre engine launched in 2014. Eon is still a hot seller for Hyundai, clocking around 4,500 unit sales every month.

With the facelift, Hyundai would be aiming to push this number and bring in more entry-level buyers into the brand. Media reports claim that the facelifted Eon will get some minor tweaks on the exteriors, while the biggest change on the inside would be a touchscreen infotainment system.

Mechanically, the Eon facelift will continue to be equipped with 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol engines, both of which will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
