Rumour: Honda readying new 160 cc commuter motorcycle

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is gearing up to expand its product portfolio in India. The company is rumoured to be readying a new commuter motorcycle with a 160 cc engine.

Honda is trying to reposition itself in the premium commuter segment in India. The company has two offerings in the segment - CB Unicorn and CB Trigger. Out of these only the former can be termed as a successful product. The CB Dazzler has been pulled out of the market. Honda sell another 150 cc bike in India -the full-faired CB 150R, but that is positioned differently.

The upcoming bike is likely to have a 160 cc, 4-stroke engine and will be sportier than Honda's current 150 cc offerings. It is likley to be launched in the July - September 2014 period and will be pitted against the Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi and Yamaha FZ-16 and FZ-S.
Honda is also rumoured to be considering another model of the Dream commuter motorcycle for India. The Dream range is made up of the 109 cc Yuga and Neo bikes.

During the fiscal 2013-14, Honda sold a total of 37,21,935 units (including exports). For 2014-15, the company is aiming to sell 45 lakh units. The company aims to have a network of 3,800 outlets by the end of the current fiscal.
