Rumour: Honda Mobilio production stopped

Honda has reportedly stopped production of the Mobilio MPV in India. While the company hasn't released an official statement about this step yet, media reports claim that the said decision has been taken due to a drop in demand for the MPV.

As per reports, not even a single unit of the Mobilio was sold last month, i.e., February 2017. The MPV hasn’t recorded any exceptional numbers in the earlier months either. It clocked just 63 unit sales in January this year and hasn't crossed the 500 unit mark in the past 10 months.

Honda recently unveiled a facelift of the Mobilio in Indonesia, which gets some cosmetic and feature-related updates. The company's Indian arm is yet to take a decision on whether or not to bring the Mobilio facelift to India.

Additionally, Honda has announced that the Mobilio currently doesn't comply with the safety norms that are expected to soon be introduced in India. This demands huge investments from Honda to make some structural changes in order to ensure that the MPV complies with the new norms. The company thus needs to analyse whether these investments are feasible, given the low demand for the car in its current form.
