Rumour: Honda mid-size SUV pre-bookings open unofficially

The mid-size SUV will be powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine from the City.

Honda plans to foray into the hotly contested mid-size SUV segment later this year. While the name of the new model is yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that the car could be launched this festive season. However, some dealerships are said to have started accepting pre-bookings already.

It seems too early to begin pre-bookings as the mid-size SUV is still undergoing road trials. Another factor could be that Honda now has just the Amaze & fifth-gen City on sale as the WR-V, Jazz and fourth-gen City have been discontinued.

Honda’s new SUV will share its underpinnings with the 5th-gen City. In terms of design, the car is likely to borrow cues from Honda’s other global models. It is expected to measure anywhere between 4.2-4.3 meters in length.

The mid-size SUV will be powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine from the City, albeit in a higher state of tune. Honda might also offer a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a strong-hybrid powertrain at a later date. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and CVT.
