Rumour: Honda to discontinue Mobilio in India?

The Honda Mobilio was introduced as a promising rival to the Maruti Ertiga in the MPV space. However, the low cost Brio-sourced interior and Honda's ambitious pricing have seen the Mobilio become a sales dud. Now, a report suggests that Honda may drop the Mobilio from its range altogether.

The report indicates that the Mobilio may be dropped to make way for the BR-V, which likely to be priced in the Rs. 7 - 12 lakh bracket. The BR-V has a lot of similarities with the Mobilio, but offers better interiors and the look of an SUV. Dropping the Mobilio would prevent any product cannibalisation with the BR-V, as the latter will be priced along similar lines.

Honda has not officially confirmed that the Mobilio has been discontinued. If the rumour holds true, it also remains to be seen if production is being ended to make way for the BR-V or to introduce the updated Mobilio, which was launched in Indonesia in January this year (link to news article).
