Rumour: Honda City Hybrid, HR-V Hybrid India launch in 2021

The City Hybrid could be launched first followed by the HR-V Hybrid.

Rumours suggest that Honda could launch the City Hybrid as well as the HR-V Hybrid in India sometime this year.

The City Hybrid would be the first to be launched and is expected around May-June 2021. The City Hybrid uses a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 97 BHP and 127 Nm and two electric motors. One of the electric motors is integrated in the petrol engine and acts as an integrated starter generator (ISG). The other powers the front wheels via a single, fixed-ratio gearbox. It generates 108 BHP and 253 Nm. The car is said to have three driving modes, which enables it to run on petrol, hybrid or full-electric power.

The second Honda product rumoured to be launched this year is the third generation HR-V Hybrid. The SUV could be launched post the festive season and is expected to be positioned as a premium offering, as the Civic and CR-V have now been discontinued.

The third generation HR-V was unveiled last month. The Indian version could get some minor revisions compared to the Thailand-spec car. In the global markets, the car will be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and dual-motor petrol-electric hybrid powertrain in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration.
