Rumour: Honda City with 6-Speed manual gearbox in the works

Honda Cars India is reportedly planning to introduce a new 6-Speed manual gearbox to its C-segment sedan offering, the Honda City. The Japanese automaker recently introduced its 6-Speed MT gearbox with the BR-V crossover, which might now come with the City sedan as well. If the above rumour is indeed true, the Honda City will become the first C-segment petrol sedan in India to get a 6-speed gearbox.

The City petrol variant is powered by 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that develops around 118 BHP and a peak torque of 145 Nm. Currently, this engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. But the addition of the aforementioned 6-speed unit will likely improve the City's cruising capabilities and fuel economy.

All other petrol sedans in the segment, including the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid, come with a 5-Speed MT. Meanwhile, the Honda City Diesel already gets a 6-speed stickshift, which is mated to a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 98.5 BHP and 200 Nm of torque.
