Earlier this year, there were reports of China-based Great Wall Motors planning to enter the Indian market. We have now learned that the carmaker is likely to launch its first product in 2021. The vehicle might be the Haval H6 SUV.

Reports suggest that Great Wall Motors is investing Rs. 7,000-8,000 crore in India. The company will be setting up a manufacturing unit in Gujarat, while its R&D team has already been setup in Bangalore. It was reported that Kaushik Ganguly - a former employee of Maruti Suzuki who was part of the product planning department, had joined Great Wall Motors.

Haval is one of four brands that come under the umbrella of Great Wall Motors. It primarily focuses on SUVs. Its model line-up includes the H2, H6, H6 Coupe and H9. In the international market, the Haval H6 is offered with two diesel engine options - a 2.0-litre unit that makes 188 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 340 Nm of torque @ 2,000-3,200 rpm and a 1.5-litre motor that puts out 161 BHP @ 5,600 rpm and 280 Nm of torque @ 1,400-3,000 rpm. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
