Rumour: Force Motors to assemble engines for BMW

Force Motors is said to be in the process of setting up a new manufacturing facility at Chengelpet in Tamil Nadu. The new plant will be operational by 2015 and will involve an investment of Rs. 100 crores. The decision to set up the new plant was taken at the meeting of the company's board of directors.

The company will manufacture engines and gearboxes for automobiles at the plant. A report by Autocar Professional suggests that the plant is being set up for a new OEM customer. The report further claims that the customer is likely to be BMW. This makes sense as the German carmaker's vehicle assembly unit is located at Chennai, which close to the new plant.

BMW will be the second luxury carmaker to utilise the services of Force Motors for the assembly of engines. The Pune-based manufacturer has been assembling engines for Mercedes-Benz at its Pune plant.
