Earlier this year, we had reported that Force Motors was working on a BS-IV version of the Gurkha. Now, according to media reports, the vehicle will be available with a choice of two engines.
The Gurkha BS-IV is expected to carry over the same 2.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine from the BS-III model. This engine produces 81 BHP and 230 Nm of torque.
Additionally, the off-roader is likely to be given the 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, Mercedes-Benz OM611 diesel engine from the Force One SUV. This unit produces 139 BHP and 321 Nm of torque.
Both engines are likely to get updated transmissions.
Like the BS-III model, the Gurkha BS-IV is expected to be available in four-wheel drive hard top, four-wheel drive soft top and two-wheel drive soft top variants.
With the engine updates, Force Motors will be able to sell the Gurkha in tier 1 cities in India, where only vehicles that comply with BS-IV emission are allowed to be sold.
