Rumour: BMW M2 Competition & M5 Competition India-bound

BMW India is reportedly planning to launch the M2 Competition and M5 Competition in India around Diwali 2018.

The BMW M2 Competition was unveiled just last month. It is based on the 2 Series coupe and is positioned above the standard M2. To differentiate it from the base M2, BMW has made a few changes to the exterior. It gets a blacked-out twin-kidney grille flanked by LED headlights and new multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels. On the inside, it gets an M Sport steering wheel and leather seats.

Unlike the base M2, the M2 Competition is powered by the same 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder engine from the M3 and M4. The twin-turbocharged engine produces 405 BHP and 550 Nm of peak torque. In the international market, the M2 is offered with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Further, BMW claims that the M2 Competition will do 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h, which can be raised to 280 km/h by opting for the Driver's Package. In India, the M2 Competition will lock horns with the Porsche 718 Cayman.

BMW is also planning to introduce the M5 Competition in the Indian market. It is positioned above the standard M5 and competes directly with the recently launched Mercedes-AMG E63 S

The M5 Competition features styling elements like the gloss black grille and vents on the front fenders, rear lip spoiler as well as 20-inch Y-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels. Under the hood, it boasts of a 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 617 BHP - 25 BHP more than the standard M5 and 750 Nm of torque. It comes equipped with an 8-speed transmission that sends power to all four wheels. The M5 Competition is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. BMW has also tweaked the suspension setup to lower the ride height by 7 mm compared to the standard M5. It comes standard with the M Sport exhaust system.
