Rumour: All-electric Tata Nexon EV is in the works

According to a media report, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Motors has said that the company is building an electric version of the Nexon. It will be one of four EVs that Tata plans to introduce in the next 18 months. 

Reports suggest that the Nexon EV could feature a lithium-ion battery. It could share its electric powertrain components with the Altroz EV, which was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The Altroz EV is said to offer a maximum range of 250-300 km on a full charge. Tata also claims that the batteries can be recharged to 80% of their capacity in 60 min using a DC fast charger.

In April 2019, we had reported that three Nexon EVs were built as part of a production test run. A leaked image revealed the front end of the car but no model badges were visible that could confirm it to be an EV.

At present, the Tigor EV is the only all-electric vehicle in Tata Motors' portfolio. It uses a 16.2 kWh battery that is claimed to offer a maximum range of 140 km on a single charge. It is likely to be updated in order to increase its range to over 200 km.
