Rumour: 138 BHP Force Gurkha Xtreme to be launched soon

According to a media report, Force Motors is planning to launch a new top-of-the-line variant of the Gurkha called the Gurkha Xtreme. It will feature a more powerful engine and updated suspension. The off-roader is rumoured to be launched later this month, but some dealerships have already started accepting bookings.

The Gurkha Xtreme will be based on the 3-door version and will be offered with a hard top or a soft top. Spy images suggest that the styling will be largely similar to the current model. It gets a rectangular front grille with circular headlamps, while the front bumper houses a pair of fog lamps. The turn signals have been positioned in separate pods on either side of the bonnet, while the snorkel inlet has been positioned on the right side.

Under the bonnet, the Gurkha Xtreme is likely to feature a Mercedes-sourced 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine from the now defunct Force One. This engine produces 138 BHP and 321 Nm of peak torque. Reports suggest that the engine will be paired to a Mercedes-sourced 5-speed manual gearbox via a dual-mass flywheel.

The Gurkha Xtreme is likely to get updated suspension with a multi-link setup at both ends. The car will reportedly have a wider front track (increased by 40 mm over the standard Gurkha), 205 mm of ground clearance and 550 mm wading depth. The approach, departure and ramp breakover angles are reported to be 44 degrees, 35 degrees and 29 degrees respectively.

The Force Gurkha Xtreme will compete with the Mahindra Thar in the Indian market.
